When Transit Mix Concrete Company of Colorado Springs had recurring problems with on/off fan drives on its cement mixers, it found a solution in the DM Advantage Two-Speed Reman Fan Drive from Horton, Inc. The company has gone from experiencing regular fan drive breakdowns to smooth operating. "We have 11 Mack CV513 Granite Bridge Formula cement mixers, and their engines were overheating every three to six months," says Ed McPherson Jr., vice president of maintenance and operations, Transit Mix Concrete Company. "That put us in a pinch. When this occurred, it was always when the drum was full of concrete. You can't leave concrete sitting in a drum or it will harden. We had to dump concrete, and our customers waiting for delivery would be unhappy. This caused significant frustration because our trucks were new and the failure shouldn’t have happened." When Horton learned of the problem, a representative recommended the company's DM Advantage Two-Speed Fan Drive. Transit Mix has switched seven of the 11 vehicles in the fleet and will convert the remainder when their current fan drives fail. Horton, Inc. has entered into an agreement with R&S Promotion Co., Ltd. in Beijing, China, to represent the company and distribute Horton products to on- and off-highway original-equipment manufacturers and aftermarket segments in China. The two companies held a signing ceremony on March 19, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza Sun Palace Hotel in Beijing. "Opening a sales office in China further establishes Horton's position in China as an international company," says Steve Wardleworth, vice president of manufacturing, Horton, Inc. "This collaboration will ensure better service for our customers in China." Horton has expanded its Fan Drive Core Exchange Program to include all DriveMaster® and DM Advantage™ Fan Drive cores, including fan drives not currently in the Reman program. Customers can exchange these and certain competitor fan drives for credit toward the purchase of a Horton remanufactured fan drive. Credit is now available for Horton S, HT/S, DriveMaster and DM Advantage Two-Speed and MSC3 fan drives. Competitor fan drives, added to the program in 2009, eligible for credit include BorgWarner Kysor® K26, Kysor K30 and Cool Logic™; Behr controllable viscous; Kit Master Gold Top™ On/Off and Two-Speed; and Bendix On/Off fan drives. Reman fan drives present a price-conscious solution — also important in today’s economy." >> Read More Horton, Inc. and Kit Masters reach an agreement Horton, Inc. and Kit Masters have reached an agreement to settle its pending litigation which involved a claim by Horton against Kit Masters for infringement of U.S. Patent No. 5,636,719 by Kit Masters’ HTS 2-speed, 88-2S and 98001 products, which will no longer be offered for sale. Horton and Kit Masters have also reached an agreement to settle its pending litigation involving a counterclaim by Kit Masters against Horton for infringement of U.S. Patent No. 7,533,764. Complete terms of the settlement agreement are confidential. Horton’s litigation against Kit Masters remains ongoing for infringement of U.S. Patent Nos. 6,838,796 and 5,611,415 by Kit Masters’ GoldTop® product involving a two-speed eddy current drive.
